Question by KLD it.: Is the neti-pot an over the counter gimmick, or does it work?
I have a chronic sinus infcetion/cold that will not give me any relief. I’m going to see a specialist but in the mean time I need some relief from a sinus head ache. I’ve had two doses of prescription strength ibuprofen, (about 1000mg total,) this morning. After two hours still no relief from the pain.
Someone suggested I try the saline nose tea pot thing. And idk it’s been reccomended to me before but I never wanted to try it. It seemed ridiculous to me and just a gimmick to clean out your nasal passages. Could the neti pot help me with the severe pain I feel right now? Can you reccomend anything else?

Answer by Joshua GIMMICK don’t waste your money. People have been doing that in India for thousands of years with out a ‘Netti’ pot. Just mix salt with warm water in a dish or cup and slowly snort it. Play with how much salt at first. Not to much to start. It should SLIGHTLY burn but not be painful. It should taste like tears NOT like the ocean. I do this when i get a cold. Do it four/six times a day. The salt kills the bacteria. If it doesn’t get better in a few days go to the doctor again.
Question by happymomof2: When should antibiotics start to work so I feel some relief?
I started taking antibiotics a day ago, but I’m miserable and I want to know when it will start helping me feel better.
I was diagnosed with an ear-infection and sinus infection. I was running a fever for ten days when I went in. I waited because I thought it was just a cold. Oops.
Now I have a fever, ear-ache, and I’m dizzy which is causing nausea. Ughhh.
Any idea when antibiotics will start working enough to help???

Answer by TweetyBird You should start feeling a difference in about 48 hours after the first dose taken but you can help yourself greatly if you treat some of your symptoms. The fever, the pain of the ear ache, the nausea.

Some cultures added powdered silver to a newborn’s first bath as protection against a harsh world. Milk farmers used to use a silver pail to collect milk. Question by H&R: Will Moxifloxacin work when others didn’t?
I have a chronic sinusitis and I performed a CT scan 1 month ago, it indicates a pansinusitis infection, the doctor prescribed me Tavanic(Levofloxacin) for 10 days and steriods for 15 days….I felt much better during the course but after 2 days the bad symptoms of sinusitis returned again!…..I went to the doctor he advised me to perform a surgery to clean the sinus passages as well and remove the inflammation, butI really don’t want to go into a surgical treatment unless all other medical ways failed to treat me!.
One of my friends which is a doctor advised me to take Moxifloxacin for 10 days, will this work while the Tavanic & the steriods failed?……..do I have to worry from taking Moxifloxacin after 2 courses of Tavanic(Levofloxacin), isn’t this too much on my body?….I don’t have allurgey to Moxifloxacin or Levofloxacin.
Thank you.

Answer by Troy likely it won’t do anything that the levafloxacin didn’t. both these drugs have very similar coverage and work by the same mechanism. There is a small chance you’d get some benefit as they aren’t identical medication, but typically antibiotics aren’t effective for chronic sinusitis.
