Question by Mom to Leah and Adam: breastfeeding and extremely congested-what’s safe to take?
I am nursing my 5 week old and am really congested and have a pretty wicked sinus headache. I’d like to get some relief before it turns into a sinus infection, but I don’t want to take anything that will dry up my milk or get the baby cranked up-she seems pretty sensitive to caffeine, etc.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Tylenol, motrin and advil are fine. Anything with a decongestant (to dry up your nasal passages) will dry your milk up. And if caffeine bothers the baby, obviously you would not take any of that. Steam will help you feel better.

Most antibiotics are quite safe for you to take, so if you should end up with a sinus infection, don’t be afraid to be treated.

Best answer:

Answer by Daisy
Yes, you can take over-the-counter Sudafed PE. Just don’t take the original kind — its kept behind the counter and you would have to ask for it and present your ID in order to purchase it.

Question by Rachel: how long does it take a sinus infection to go away?
I haven’t had a full blown sinus infection since childhood. Now I am 30 years old and pregnant and have a severe one with green mucus sometimes streaked with blood. It all started by a cold that lasted 2 weeks before it.

Anyways, i am finally on Amoxillin as prescribed by doctor yesterday. I have taken 2 pills so far. How long until I see results?

Now that you are on antibiotics, the healing process has started, and I would say within 2-3 days you should be feeling relief.
