Question by laurie67: Help! What can I do to relieve nasty persistent sympt – sinus congestion, cough, ear pressure? Home remedy id?
I was on antibiotics 2 weeks ago as the sore throat turned sinus congestion turned chest congestion and cough was not going away. Doc said likely infection and I went on 1 week of antibiotics. I felt great – until 24 hours after the last pill – symptoms stsrted al over again. Maybe its a virus or bactiria mutated…but does anyone have remedies they have tried that could help? I have used many over the counter medicines and immune booster types of drops and teas. Also use humidifier at night. Thanks you for your ideas!

Answer by jandy get sinus or throat culture before next round of antibiotics, Home remedy is chicken soup/ orange juice, Warm saline nasal rinses, can use McNeil Sinus rinse, has salt and pinch of baking soda so it won’t burn. Nyquil, has diphenhydramine or Benadryl in it, will dry you up. salt water gargles, tea’s, bland foods. Vit C/ Zinc 100mg, stay hydrated. could be virus, it’s been going around, so wash your hands, keyboard and cellphone, change toothbrush when well. doubt bacteria mutated, but, you might not have had the right antibiotic and doc should have cultured you first, they are the first ones to not want to treat sinus inf with antibiotics and then they do it anyway. The docs need to follow their own advice and shut up and start being truthful with the public. He shouldn’t have guessed, cause that’s exactly how resistant bacteria works. he probably gave you 5 day Z pack and it killed off enough staph or upper resp flora, try some yogurt or Kefir, tangy yogurt from health food store, to restore gut bacteria or eat green vegies for the same effect.

Question by : Intense sinus pressure with no runny nose? Help please!?
So my face feels like it’s about to explode, I’m sure it’s allergies, not sure what kind though.
I have a very strong pressure around my nose and face area, giving me slight earaches and just general discomfort. The thing is though, my nose is completely clear, no drainage what-so-ever and I can breath in and out fine.
Can someone please help me with some kind of at-home relief of this, no medicines please. Will running a luke-warm saline solution through my nose to help to relieve pressure?
And helpful recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Answer by Chu_Chi’s Mom You can try appling some Peppermint oil or vicks around your area of pressure or possibly even a warm wash cloth on your face. My dad taught me to moisten a hand towel and put it in the microwave for 25-30 seconds. It will be hot for a moment but it will also stay warm longer. then lay down and relax all the muscles in your face, make sure to have a back up towel right next to you in tin foil waiting when the 1st gets cold. Good luck and if it doesnt get better you are gonna have to go to the doc. The saline solution wont do you any good..it is for relieving stuffiness and you can breathe fine so… Try the cloth or put your head with a towel over a boiling pan of water.. Hope something helps…

Question by Bella: I’ve been having extreme pressure around my eyes and forehead, the doctor told me I had a sinus infection?
He told me it was probably a sinus infection. The pressure is around my eyes and forehead. I have a stiff neck which is known to be a symptom. Every once and a while I can feel these little cracks in my sinuses ( I have been on anitbiotics for a few days now, but only having some relief) But I always thought that you have congested nasal passages when you have an infection, and I don’t… just wondering if this could be something else… Its really agonizing sometimes and I would like some answers.. Thanks.

Answer by Katie W You don’t always; sometimes it stays deep in the sinuses. Temple and eye pain/pressure (especially between the eyes) is indicative of a sinus problem, yes; I hadn’t heard of a stiff neck as being a symptom of sinus infection though, odd.
I *would* worry a bit if it’s been several days on antibiotics with little to no improvement, though; you may need a different antibiotic. I’d suggest calling up your doctor again for advice. You may also need a decongestant and expectorant to help thin the congestion in the sinuses and help relieve the pain and pressure while the antibiotic hopefully works on the cause. There’s a lot of good over-the-counter ones; I personally prefer Mucinex these days.
Sinus pressure in an ear is a painful discomfort, and if not treated correctly, could lead to more serious inner ear trouble. Get an inhaled nasal corticosteroid, which would be prescribed by a doctor, and follow the advice of this skin doctor in this free video about relieving sinus pressure in an ear.Expert: Dr. David Hill Contact: www.capefearpediatrics.com Bio: Dr. David Hill is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Internal Medicine and Pediatrics combined residency.
