What I use is a bulb syringe and non-iodized salt (I was told iodized salt might be irritating) 1 teaspoon/ 2 cups warm water as a nasal rinse. Very gently squeeze the bulb syringe into your nose because you don’t want to drown yourself (of course you can’t, but you can give yourself a horrible snort with one of those things!)

It works for allergies, too!

Question by manyfacestosee: Used a neti pot, now I’m sick!?
Yesterday I used a nose bidet for the first time with warm salty water, as was recommended, and now I am sick. I woke up with a sore throat, nasal congestion and a fever (from infection, maybe?). I felt it going down the back of my throat some, but for the most part it came out the other nostril and I thought I would be start to feel some relief from my chronic sinusitis and sinus headaches. Is this normal? Will it get better or should I stop? Thanks

The solution used for neti pots should start with room temperature water and about a teaspoon of salt. Sesame oil and golden seal tincture can also be added to a neti pot solution recipe. Clean and help the sinus cavities with advice from a wellness educator and herbal medicine specialist in this free video on alternative medicine.

Question by WinterBorn: Neti Pot: Convince my Fiance of the benefits!?
I love using a Neti pot to wash out my sinuses when pollen is bad. My Fiance is miserable with his allergies. Medications give temporary relief.

He wants to hear what y’all have to say about the Neti pot.

I had never even heard of a neti pot until i read this question, but i looked it up on the internet and found out some information. from what i can tell it seems like something that really would work. i am a person that refuses to take medicine unless it is absolutely necessary, and this seems like it would be a more natural way to clear up a sinus problem. i would tell him to at least give it a try. what is it going to hurt? it’s just saltwater pretty much.

So the wife shows me an episode of Oprah with Dr. Oz of the You series of health books. He’s showing this thing called a neti pot. It’s a watering can for the nose. The thing is put into one nostril and warm salt water is poured through the nostrils cleaning out the sinuses. My first attempt at video with this new camera sucked. Apparently my video software won’t edit 16:9 video.
