Question by Love4Life: What are some of the best home remedies for sinus issues during the fall season?
This is for my friend, who is suffering from severe nasal congestion and sinus pressure. He has tried the Nettie Pot with salt water but it isn’t working, and he wants to stay away from OTC medication – and he’s tried most anyway, but they still have not worked. The doctor has said he’ll need surgery which will include breaking the bridge of his nose and he’s not ready to do that. Any home remedies that you know of would be greatly appreciated!

Answer by Heather Helm Put half a teaspoon of vix into a large bowl of boiling water and put your face over the bowl and cover your head and bowl with a towel and try to breathe the steam in thru your nose. Keep some tissues handy and blow your nose every minute or so. Try to do it for at least 5 minutes. Do this at least 3 times a day. Also keep up with the salt water nasal irrigation. ps vix is a menthol chest rub here in oz. It is available in our supermarkets so I’m sure you can find some there tho it might be called something else. Good luck

My friend says its sinus, not quite sure but if it is then I have to go see a doc, I saw something on Oprah that says this netty potty helps people but they aren’t available here.
I have tried steam which helped but again only a little while. Anything else that I can try?
I have been haveing really bad pain in my jaw. It only seems to be responding to sinus pills. It’s not responding to anything for teeth. But the pills I have to take hurt my stomach.
So I have to wait 30min. for the pills to work and then another 30mins for the stomach relief pills to kick in. Is there anything else i can do?

I was raised in NJ. I used to get sinus/allergy headaches every Spring and Fall. In Florida, I rarely had them. Here in Wisconsin, I’m getting them each Spring and Fall. Nothing over the counter is helping, and neither is anything the doctor had me try. It gives temporary relief sometimes, but not this time. Day 4 now. I figured there is something that grows in the northern US that doesn’t grow in the south. Do any of you go through this as well?
