Sinus Medication Solution

Question by Scylla: Can decongestants and antihistamines be given to children taking antibiotics for a sinus infection?
Until I can get an answer from his pediatrician, some healthy advise on here would be appreciated…

Our 12 mo old son was diagnosed with Strep A, and a double ear infection today.
His throat is red, and his nose is very runny (but doesn’t appear to be infected).
Is it ok to treat these symptoms and give him some relief from the popping and sore ears, and runny nose, and occasional cough from phloem, with some children’s OTC decongestant, and maybe even an expectorant?
Doing so might also help prevent further spreading of the Strep A bacteria to others via his super snot that wont stop X-P… I don’t expect it to cut out the risk of spreading entirely, as he is only 1, but anything that helps me fight the decontaminating battle is a welcome alli.
I saw a post on here that says it is ok to take decongestants with antibiotics, but nothing was mentioned for children, even though I know they make OTC children’s decongestant.
Still looking for answers, but your advise would be appreciated.

As long as there are none of the same ingredients in the medications you are giving him you should be fine…but I would be extremely careful if he is already taking something for his nose because I took too many different nasal medications over the course of the day and my heart rate was way up for about an hour. get one of the nose suckers to suck the snot out of his nose.
