Question by Mom to Leah and Adam: breastfeeding and extremely congested-what’s safe to take?
I am nursing my 5 week old and am really congested and have a pretty wicked sinus headache. I’d like to get some relief before it turns into a sinus infection, but I don’t want to take anything that will dry up my milk or get the baby cranked up-she seems pretty sensitive to caffeine, etc.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Tylenol, motrin and advil are fine. Anything with a decongestant (to dry up your nasal passages) will dry your milk up. And if caffeine bothers the baby, obviously you would not take any of that. Steam will help you feel better.

Most antibiotics are quite safe for you to take, so if you should end up with a sinus infection, don’t be afraid to be treated.

I have a serious sinus headache, and I can’t get an appointment to see my doc until next week. Do you think that this nasal spray will be ok for me to take? I am miserable, I need some relief from this headache. I have had it for a few days already.
son is almost 6 months old eats solids and sometimes drinks juice.

I’ve been taking prescription nose spray since I was pregnant and my doctor has told me that nose sprays won’t affect the baby at all. I breastfeed too so I never had any trouble with it. Since it goes in your nose, you don’t have worry about it going into the blood.

My daughter is seven weeks old. I have no sinus congestion, but my chest congestion and cough are getting worse and I’m getting a headache. Steam (shower, etc.) only works shot term…

My daughter is 6 weeks old. I am breastfeeding her. The thing is I have what I think is a sinus infection coming on and my appointment with the doc isnt until a week from now. What I wanted to know is what are some home remedies to help cope with infection.. and if there was anything i can do at home to help from getting it worse. I am taking benadryl cause I know its safe to take while breastfeeding.. But what are other things i can take or do that won’t harm my baby through breast feeding?

I have an oh so wonderful sinus infection. I am 18 weeks pregnant and nursing as well. I want to treat it naturally, and avoid antibiotics and need to tips on treatment. I have been drinking warm fluids, using a Neti pot, and taking lots of vitamin c. Any other natural recommendations?
