Question by louthechris: What is a “liver friendly” antibiotic for a sinus infection?
I was a heavy drinker for over 20 years and have only been sober for one month so far. I suspect my liver is pretty beat up.
I am very wary about things like Tylenol, and antibiotics. I have a nasty, lingering sinus infection….My doctor prescribed Zitromax, but I’m afraid of taking it (…part of the problem also is telling my doctor about the drinking part…I have personal reasons for that…)
Is there an antibiotic safe for the liver, or something else to knock out this sinus infection?
Question by Etni: Which antibiotic is better for treating sinusitis, ampicillin or amoxicillin?
Which antibiotic works better for the treatment of sinusitis, a sinus infection, ampicillin or amoxicillin?

Answer by Sach Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin and Ampicillin both fall in the same class of antibiotics, the beta lactams. However Amoxicillin has better absorption and better bactericidal effect than the latter.
Question by Steve: Do I have an antibiotic resistant sinus infection?
>In May I got a sinus infection with green/yellow mucus.
>Didn’t take antibiotics, green/yellow mucus went away, stuffy nose went away, white mucus in back of throat stayed.
>Sometime in June/July I took a couple days worth of leftover Clarithromycin and Amoxicillin (Stupid of me)
>Went to doctor in august told him i had sinus infection, gave me Clarithromycin, which didn’t do anything for white mucus in back of throat.
>Past two weeks I have been taking Allegra-D and Nasonex. They reduce the amount of mucus but I still have to spit foul tasting white mucus, but not as much as before. I have tried Neti Pot but only gives temp relief.
>I went to school doctor last week and she checked back of throat, my ears, and my nose and said it was just allergy. I forgot to tell her about taking the antibiotics back in June. She thought it was just allergy and to continue taking Allegra and Nasonex but its not really getting better everyday.
I have read about sinus infection traveling to brain and killing people and I am extremely worried.
I have no pain or pressure in my sinuses or anything but I never have any pain or pressure when I have sinus infection.
Do I have an Amoxicillin/Clarithromycin resistant sinus infection? Should I go to the doctor and ask for different antibiotic? Or is it allergies and I should ask for allergy test?
Thanks,
An extremely (stupid) worried person.
I don’t have a cough or stuffy/runny nose either.

Answer by Jennie Your problem could be from a couple of different issues. You could still have the sinus infection due to the fact that you never finished your antibiotic and it just isn’t full blown yet. Always finish your medications that is one reason for resistance although I don’t feel as though that is an issue at this point. It could also be allergies. There are several different allergy medications available. I have found that Flonase (nasal spray) and zyrtec (oral medication) work good together. Either way you should consult your doctor for a thorough evaluation.

This is a demonstration of cranial osteopathy by Tony Bryant a British trained osteopath I’ll be demonstrating how to work with the fascia of the body, the 4 diaphragms of the body, the craniosacral motion, the parietal lift, the frontal bone adjustment, a treatment for sinusitis, TMJ Correction, Intraoral Contacts on the maxillary arch, the vomer. the hamulus, the palatines and CV4- Compression of the fourth ventricle. The CV4 technique can reduce a fever by 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit, within half an hour. It can also reduce blood pressure by at least 10 points. It feels deeply relaxing. My nearly eight year old daughter has been fighting a sinus infection for the last 3 weeks – we’ve done one round of antibiotics and are starting another (Septra) – she eats when given the antibiotic, but still complains of stomach distress and loses her appetite during the course of the antibiotic.
I give her yogurt to help rebuild the good bacteria lost due to treatment – but was wondering is anyone had any other advice that could hopefully make her a little more comfortable in the next few days.
