Question by mazzie: Severe Sinus Problems—ragweed?
I have severe sinus problems. I’ve seen an ENT doctor and a neurologist with no results. Currently I am suffering from what I think is ragweed allergy. My only syptoms are severe sinus pain and general sick feelings (nausea, temperature fluctuation, fatigue) I use a nasal spray and take Zyrtec daily. They help a little. Any ideas, suggestions? I am particularly interested in trying some homeopathic remedies.

I have heard people have had success with sinus irrigation systems.

Entry from: Jodhpur, India Entry Title: “The Blue City” Entry: “JODHPUR So we finally made it to Jodhpur, and since we didn’t have a hotel lined up beforehand, we did a little bit of searching around. At this point in our journey, I was feeling pretty gross. I contracted a nasty sinus infection somewhere along the way (Could it have been from recycled airplane air? Or was it from the cold night of camping in the desert? Perhaps it was from playing with dung beetles before eating. Maybe I was coughed upon, sneezed upon, or spit upon! Oh…I know…it must have been the rat excrement that lingered on my bare feet, encrusted between my toes for five hours!), and I was in dire need of a time out, a cup of tea, and a foot bath. Our prayers were soon answered, and we found the best guest house ever: Newton’s Manor. If you ever get to Jodhpur, Newton’s Manor is the place to stay. It’s a colonial style guest house with six rooms, free internet, home cooked meals, and kitschy antiques all over the place. The staff is wonderful, and Mr. Newton makes a point of interacting with each of his guests. It was a fantastic home away from home for our two days in Jodhpur. Jodhpur, the blue city, was amazing. We started in the morning with Jaswant Thada, a marble memorial described as the “Taj Mahal of Marwar.” It had

Question by L Street Brownie: Do you need Nyquil to sleep and relieve your night time cold symptoms?
A female friend of mine calls herself a social drinker. She does not drink every day, or so she says. She likes mixed drinks, wine coolers, or cocktails containing vodka, tequila, or rum. Not a beer person or wine for that matter. Likes her martinis too. But I question whether or not she drinks at least one drink per day. She has battled sinus infections all of her life, from nasal congestion, coughs, and sinus infections that spread to her ears. She has a mild form of asthma and when she gets ear and sinus infections she uses an inhaler.
With the onset of winter, and the fact that she just got over an ear infection, I have noticed that she takes Nyquil every night. Not only does it help her with her cough, she finds that Nyquil has a sedative property to it so that it reduces her anxiety. She is very stressed about work and some personal issues and I am concerned that she is developing a dependence on alcohol through the Nyquil. One night, we had a couple of drinks, rum and Coke and she did a couple of shots of rum. Then she is still buzzed from the rum but insisted on taking Nyquil for her cough before she went to bed. I really didn’t notice her coughing much that night. She also smokes and is trying to quit. Sometimes I am not sure if the coughing is aggravated by her smoking more than a cold or sinus condition.
I think that her use of Nyquil is for more than just as a cough supressant. There are other cough and cold medications available that are just as effective as cough suppressants and offering alternative relief for cold symptoms and sinus condition sufferers. The big difference is that Nyquil contains alcohol and the alternative cough and cold medications do not.
Have you used Nyquil in the past? Are there other cough medications available that are just as effective that do not contain alcohol? How should I approach the subject of Nyquil with my girl friend?
