i’ve always had terrible allergies (nose and throat), but after moving from a humid state (virginia) to the dry desert of california, they got worse and my nose got REALLY dry. i usually have postnasal, still do, but now i also have that full stuffy feeling you get with a sinus infection in my face and forehead, and sometimes popped ears, but my nose is not really stuffed up often. is it possible for me to have a sinus infection, or could these just be different allergies? i feel fine otherwise, and i know sinus infections usually cause pain dont they? it takes FOREVER to get an ENT appt here, so i figured i’d ask in the meantime!

It sounds more like allergies and your body adjusting to the climate. An infection would cause you more symptoms similar to a flu, like body aches and the like. You may want to try using a saline spray for your nose. You can get it at any drug store. Just plain saline spray, no medication. That may help.

My experience has been painful with a sinus infection. Antibiotics are what you need if you have a sinus infection. I used to get sinus infections and they felt like an ice pick was being stuck just above my eye. They are very painful. You might be just allergic to something. I would go see an allergist and get the pin prick test on your back. It is not painful compared to sinus infections and then you know what might be causing your ailments. Good luck.

Odds are you may have some new allergies. A sinus infection is possible and the adjustment in climate could certainly facilitate it. One way to know is a sinal tap. Place you fingertip over your forehead above the eye. Lightly tap on the nail with another finger. You will hear a distinct thud. Now place it over the center line of the brow. Repeat. Then do the same over the high point of your cheeks working from out side in towards the nose. It should sound about the same. If one sounds more hollow its clear. if has fluid you will also feel pressure. you can lightly massage then and use hot compresses to alleviate the pressure as well. The hotter the better. Look up apis mel or sinusitis on the web site i gave you.. they work great! Former allergy sufferer here.

Sinus infections are associated with discomfort, foul odor, discharge of darkish brown and green colored discharge. Post nasal can flux from yellowish to opaque clear.

    Hope that helps.

The best way to know if U have a sinus infection…..(I happen to have one as we speak)….is the color of your nasal discharge…..a yellow green color usually acompanied with sinus pressure…..headache and inability to really clear out nose in a tissue…..is usually an indication….eventually a drip will form if not caught early enough and fill your lungs with muchus as well…and also check your temp…..a low grade fever 99-100 will usually indicate your body is fighting something off…..See an ENT specialist to be certain. if U lie a little and say its really severe high fever …etc they may get U in on a cancellation….they will most likley prescribe a antibiotic called omnicef….its the best for sinusites….thats what I’m on right now…and several times prior…it works like a charm
