10 yr. old daughter was a straight A student, but her grades have been slipping in the last couple of weeks. Nothing new going on at home or at school. She says she just forgets to bring an assignment home or to complete it according to the directions she’s been given. Very unlike her. The only thing going on in the last couple of weeks has been illness — first, a high fever and sore throat and now, a sinus infection, which she is being treated for. I don’t know what else could be causing this.
She is a very serious student and takes immense pride in her honor roll status. Her teachers have always commented on her intensity as a student and how she always goes the extra mile, on her own, with an assignment or project. In fact, some of her teachers have said she should relax more and not be so hung up on her grades. Neither my DH or I have ever pushed her for grades … never had to. She’s always had very high expectations for herself academically. These last two weeks are definitely uncharacteristic of her.

    Lack of the D word.
Your daughter needs some discipline, I think she’s trying to
see how much she can get away with.

Time to put your foot down, before it gets too out of hand.

    Lets start with alittle grounding.

    Good Luck

It could be that the illness that she is still fighting off is making her mentally exhausted. I don’t think she’s trying to forget to do her assignments but she could be so drained at the end of the school day that she’s just glad to have made it through another day. I’d suggest talking to her teacher and perhaps get the teacher to remind her before leaving for the day to remember her homework assignments.

A high fever could also have started a new infection or sickness that even you could not have noticed with all she’s been through. I’d take her to her doctor just in case to have her checked out for something more serious.

It could be that the medicine makes her drownsy so she doesnt always hear all of the instructions. Also may she is having some trouble hearing things well as the ears are closely related to the sinuses.

a sinus infection can cause insomnia. If she is getting less sleep she may be forgetful but I think something else is going on. Is it possible that she is being bullied for being smart?

Sounds more like puberty than sinus infection and YES puberty can cause forgetfullness. and it can also cause a child to change their habits. Like from being a straight A to average.

No, it wouldn’t, otherwise I’d be comparable to Alzheimer’s patients–5 since Christmas. I’m only 15!
