I used to try all the over the counter meds and when you have a sinus infection they will not do anything for it. Antibiotics are the only way to go.

You need antibiotics if it’s really a sinus infection. Only the doctor can tell you if it is. If you just have a bad cold–which it could be–antibiotics are worthless on those viruses.
I saw a story on Discovery Health about this man who had a sinus infection. He didn’t go to the doctor. It spread to his jaw and into his neck and down into his chest. The sack around his heart became infected and he died. This happened in 3 days. Yes, it’s rare, but it can happen. Anytime you have a bacterial infection, you need to see the doctor and get an antibiotic right away.

If you’ve tried self-treatment for three or four days and still have sinus pain, pressure, and stiffness, you need to see a doctor to help clear up the infection and drain your sinuses, advices Terence M,Davidson,M,D. ” Otherwise, your sinuses could abscess into your eye,or worse, into your brain.”
You may need to take antibiotics or,if your symptoms persist, undergo surgery to break up the blockage. A sinus specialist can also perform x-rays and help you discover what’s causing your congestion,be it a virus,an obstruction like polyps, allergies,or sensitivity to medications such as birth control pills or aspirin.
