Is IT Safe To Take take AMOXICILLIN, and BENADRYL together to help cope with a sinus infection?
Posted by: Alan in Sinus Infection, tags: Amoxicillin, Benadryl, cope, Help, Infection, Safe, Sinus, Take, togetherI’m curious to know due to the fact I’m currently ailed with a sinus infection, however I don’t have the ability to see a doctor about it.
I found out that yes it is safe, due to Benadryl being an anti-hystimine, and AMOXICILLIN an anti-boitic.
thanks for the info everyone.

Call your drugstore, and ask the pharmacist.

Yes, there is no contraindication. Amoxicillin is just an antibiotic that will help to fight an infection. Benadryl will help your allergies, but only treats the symptoms, whereas Amoxicillin is treating the actual infection.

You can call any doctors office and a nurse will answer any of your questions. I think it’s ok to take Benadryl with Amoxicillin.

You don’t have to see a doctor to answer this questions. Call a local pharmacist like at a (Walgreen’s or CVS and they will tell you) Please do not take any medical advise from any one online.

You shouldn’t be taking amoxicillin without a prescription in the 1st place. I hope at least that they were prescribed to you and not someone else.
Other than that, I agree to call the pharmacist, or go to webmd.com

Take one medicine at a time! If you don’t know how its going to affect you, don’t try it. Also none of us here have the knowledge about medicine. Don’t take our advice and risk your life. See the doctor when you can.

I was told you can’t do that because you can harm your self because these are to type of medication with serious side effects.

yes, you should be able to, as they are 2 different medications, attacking 2 different problems… the amoxicillin is an antibiotic for the infection, and the Benedryl is an anihistimine, for allergy/sinus. You really should call your doctor or a pharmacist to be safe, AND most antibiotics have a short “shelf life”, so if it is an old prescription, it will probably not work. Also, if it’s a used prescription, it will probably not be enough. It is usually prescribed in exact dosage to kill whatever infection you have. If it is not taken in full dosage, it may not work. Call your doctor, maybe he can call in a new prescription.

Yep, the rule is if you are to take 2 antibiotic drugs, you need to take them 2 hours apart. But Benadryl is not an antibiotic. Amoxicillin is. So, yep…you may take them. Just follow your prescription.

yes it is safe… amoxicillin is antibiotic while benadryl is commonly for cough, allergies….. no complications…
but ask your family doctor just to make sure, cuz’ you might have some allergic reactions to these medications.

You shouldn’t take antibiotics if you only have a short amount on hand. If you don’t take all the medication prescribed the infection could become a super infection if not treated properly

Since you have an infection you want drainage not dryage. Yes it is safe to take Benadryl it is not wise. You should take Sudafed or Mucenex these help drain the sinuses. Benadryl will dry up the secretions and they won’t be easily expelled therefore the bacteria will stay in the sinus and your recovery will take longer.
ps if you didn’t see the doctor where did you get the Amoxicillin?
