My sinus cavities are very dry and in a lot of pain. I don’t have a Neti Pot and I tried some saltwater but it only made it worse.

A sinus problem is caused by an excess of kapha dosha according to Vasant Lad, B.A.M,S., M.A.Sc., director of the Ayurvedic Institute in AAlbuquerque New Mexico.
To prevent sinus problem from developing, Dr. Lad recommends keeping your nostrils moisturized, “Using an eyedropper, put five drops of warm ghee in each nostril,” he says. “Do this at least once a day, either once in the morning or once in the evening, and ghee or sesame oil for this purpose.
Recipe for ghee, or clarified butter,
    * Melt two pound of unsalted butter in a heavy saucepan
    over medium heat.
    * As soon as the butter begin to boil and form, reduce the
heat to a simmer. Keep the melted butter at a steady
simmer until it is golden in color and no form remains
    on top.
    * Stir occasionally after the whitish curds sink to the bottom
When these curds turn light tan, the ghee is ready.
    * Cool the mixture and strain it into a sterile quart jar. Discard the curds from the bottom, as they are almost pure cholesterol.
( Sesame oil is available in most health food stores.)

Buy an OTC saline nasal spray and also try a nasal rinse (avail. at most drugstores)

I have the same problem…taking a hot shower and sitting in the steam really seems to help, at least for a few hours…and I’ve been trying to drink loads of water. Also, I use a sinus rinse and saline spray which helps some. You can also apply a little bit of Vick’s vapor rub (not the oily kind) around your nostrils (which also helps with chapped or dry skin from blowing your nose). I’m thinking about buying a humidifier for my room to help (there’s one at Target for $30). One last thing to try…when I was little and got sick, my mom would boil water and then make a concoction of either lemon, honey and hot water or Vick’s vapor rub and hot water and would have me hold my head over the bowl with a towel over my head to keep all the steam in one place. It sounds silly, but I remember it being comforting.

    I hope that helps…
