How long does it take for a sinus infection to go away?
Posted by: Alan in Sinus Infection, tags: Away, Infection, Long, Sinus, TakeI have had my sinus infection for a little over a week now I was put on Avelox and it seems like the mucus cleared up alot but I still have the pain and pressure behind my eye and in my cheeks and it is worse when I cough,sneeze,bend over…ect. How long will it take for it to completely go away?

Sinus infections can come back over and over. Have you been taking an over the counter decongestant? This may help decrease some of your symptoms. And, dramatically increasing your daily water intake will also help. Running a humidifier in the bedroom where you sleep will to. It can take weeks to get completely rid of sinus problems.

If your symptoms are clearing up on the Avelox, then it means the infection is going away. The annoying thing about infections of the respiratory system is that those tissues are very easily irritated and can take a long time to heal. Even after the infection is gone your sinuses may remain swollen and inflamed and you’ll still have more mucus than normal. This can go on for as long as two weeks after the infection has cleared. You’re also at a higher risk of contracting a secondary bacterial or viral infection because your sinuses are inflamed. This can lead to a chronic condition. The best thing to do is avoid sick people, don’t touch your face, and wash your hands often. You can take an over the counter pain reliever with a decongestant to help relieve your symptoms.
