My son is 18 months old and is ALWAYS sick with a cold. He has been back and forth to the doctor with what they call a “virus”. He would have a fever, and hives that appear and go away on his face. After a fever, for the first time his eyes rolled to the back of his head, his head snapped back and body was stiff for about 20 seconds. He seemed to pass out. The ER said he had a febrile seizure, when demanding an answer as to why he’s been so sick, so often, we keep getting the “day care kid” answer. My son goes to daycare 3 days a week, the same one for the last year with no new kids and no other sick ones. He had been out of the daycare for a week due to traveling. The ER sent us home with amoxicillin for a week and called it sinusitis. Two days after completing the amoxicillin 10 day treatment he started getting hives on his belly, then chin, then head, face, arms, chest, and every where else. They said it was an allergy to amoxicillin (late reaction?) He is now STILL SICK with the pink eye in both eyes, wont eat, nose that runs like a faucet, fussy and wont eat. He has a wet cough and green runny nose and green discharge from eyes. Were giving him benadryl every 6 hours for the past week, they started him on symbicort saying its asthma, and did an alergy test. He is “level 2″ for milk and egg whites. We are currently eliminating all dairy from his diet. Please help…

I’m SO sorry!! I could NOT imagine going through half of what you are at the moment! But anyways, I would get a different doctor, and I would go to a different ER, or even keep going back, even daily. They can not refuse to treat you/your son by law. The benadryl every 6 hours for a week is NOT good for his immune system and he could develop an immunity to it later in life from being on it too often. If the elimination of dairy from his diet doesn’t take care of the hives, I would change laundry detergent also. I’m not sure what else could be wrong. If you don’t have a humidifier, get one! They work well and they have special ones for babies, that go in the nursery for only 25 dollars at MOST! (I just got one yesterday for 15 at a discount store.) I really really hope your son is okay. I really would suggest a different ER and doctor. Maybe even ask to be referred to a ENT (ears nose and throat) specialist. I feel so bad and wish there was more to tell you. I’ll be praying for your family and especially your little boy!

I agree with Kaytie about going to an ear nose and throat specialist, and seeing a different doctor. My little brother had many of these things (he passed out in the crib at 3 months, often would get very high fevers, etc) and they just needed to put tubes in his ears and a lot of the problems went away. He also has asthma which flares up around the fall, and he’s allergic to a few things that give him hives like cloves and pine trees, but it’s mostly under control (he’s 12 now)
Maybe in addition to your normal doctor, also see a naturopath to see if they have any alternative remedies that might help the little guy out.
    Good luck to you guys!
