I’m on a 10 day course of Augmentin (antibiotic) right now, but it seems like my right eustachian tube is clogged up. I would like to get some temporary relief with over the counter meds.

Does anyone know if decongestants and antihistamines can even be used in conjunction with antibiotics safely? Maybe you even know which OTC meds to take for this?

You can take these meds with your antibiotics. An over the counter decongestant would probably fix this problem the best – Sudafed is just one of the meds you could use.

Yes they can be taken with the antibiotic, and in fact often are. Pseudophedrine will help with the congestion, it is kept behind the counter in the pharmacy so you have to ask for it, but you don’t need a prescription. Do drink at least two quarts of water daily because when you are taking antibiotics and have an illness you dehydrate very quickly, this thickens secretions and makes it more difficult to get rid of the congestion.

ALL the drugs you have mentioned are damaging your body and immune system greatly. Most sinus infections come from a toxic liver and yes, the drugs will give you some temporary relief, but until you deal with the “root cause” of the sinus problems that is actually causing the problem, you will be chasing the symptoms like doctors do that keeps them living in the lavish style to which they have become accustomed. The other typical source of sinus infection(s) are the teeth. If you have ANY amalgam fillings in your mouth, any root canals that were done by the typical so called “modern dentists,” or extractions, you should look to that mess and get it cleaned up by a biological dentist that knows what he is doing.

The antibiotic you are taking is only treating the symptoms and is damaging 3/4 of your immune system, your intestinal flora. To get permanent relief of your problem, rather than constantly treating the symptoms, you need to get to that “root cause,” or you will find yourself living with this problem for a long time. And realize, that the sinus problem is a symptom and what is causing that problem is also affecting other parts of your body as well. If you have a toxic liver, for example, a cascade of events can start happening and you will end up like most Americans today on a bunch of “life support” pills and dependent upon them to make you feel better, however you want to define “better.”

A strong suggestion for you would be to see a Certified Nutritional Therapist that can test you for nutritional deficiencies, recommend a good food plan and possibly some supplements that will put you on the road to real health.

    good luck to you
