Blueeyedgirly - I have ALWAYS had sinus problems. The white discharge coming from your eyes is just mucus from your sinuses (this is the same mucus that is found in the eyes, mouth and nose). Get some eye wash solution at your local drugstore (about $5 and comes with an eye wash cup) and just rinse/clean your eyes out every couple of hours.
You can also just rinse your eyes with clear water, but the eye wash solution feels better.
To prevent future sinus infections, you may want to try using a "Neti Pot". The "Neti Pot" is filled with warm, slightly salted water and the spout of the pot is inserted into one nostril. The position of the head and pot are adjusted to allow the water to flow out of the other nostril. (Dr Oz recommended on the Oprah Show the daily use of neti pots for people with sinus problems.)
Once learnt, the practice can be done in about 3 minutes and is easily integrated into a daily routine of body cleansing such as showering or cleaning of the teeth.
Neti pots can be purchased at health food stores and on-line for about $5-20.
