Hi Mary g, If your complaints are troublesome and persistent and do not respond to simple measures, such as tried decongestants, eating lots of fruit, drinking lots, vitamin tablets, garlic, this most likely allergic reaction, a visit to your doctor could be very helpful.
The cure for sinusitis is steam inhalation, nasal irrigation, hot fluids such as tea or chicken soup, and plenty of rest. Aspirin or paracetamol tablets and decongestants are some of the medicines commonly prescribed for sinus infections. If the symptoms continue for more than 48 hours, the pateint should be started on antibiotics or nasal steroids. If you don’t treat the sinus infection pretty early, it could even cause bronchitis and pneumonia and damage the sinuses and cheekbones. You would then have to go for nasal surgery to repair the damage.
When the sinus infection refuses to respond to medication, Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) is the most efficient treatment.

My 2 cents: I am hoping to see less of a reliance on medications when it comes to illnesses like sinusitis. Neti pot, steam, all that is, IMO, the place to start.
Now I am not saying that medication and surgery does not have its use just that I think people need to make sure they are exploring all their options first.
Even in the case of chronic sinusitis, there are options like balloon sinuplasty that do more to work with the body than traditional sinus surgery.

You have probably tried steam, the old head over a pan of hot water routine. If not give it a shot using a clean pan and filtered water. you can add aromatics to the water, such as eucalyptus. Ginger tea can also help. Asian stores often carry a powdered version sweetened with honey.
Keep drinking lots of water or tea. Keep adding extra vitamin C.

Do steam inhalations. Boil water for about 5 mins remove it from the fire, Put in a cabbage leaf. Throw a towel over your head and inhale the steam for a few mins. Do not use any mentholated balms.
Alternatively, massage the areas on your face, forehead, nose-bridge, eyebrows, in a circular motion. It will help in reducing the congestion.
It is possible for you to have your sinuses blocked due to heavy cold. Please refer to my site for additional information on how to get relief from sinusitis.

Mix tumeric with soy milk and boil it together in a pot. You can also add vanilla and a bit of sugar for flavor. The tumeric cleans your blood it is also good for any infection in general

I have severe allergies and I am constantly battling a stuffed up nose. To open my nasal passages, I use Nostrilla. It is a nasal spray that you can buy over the counter, and it unblocks my nose in about 5-10 minutes. I have not seen it at WalMart or Target, but I buy it at my local independent drug store. Where I live (southern California) it sells for around $5-$6 a bottle and will last quite some time. Best of luck to you.

This is perfect! I’ll lead you to some products that work AMAZING together. My fiance used to have a weak imune system due to asthma. He never took vitamins until I showed him what I use. It has been about a year and he has hardly gotten a cold or flu. If he does, it only lasts for about 2-3 days and is VERY mild. He is a psychologist and is running a business in health coaching and recommends this brand of natural products! Go to this site, http://www.kszymanska.qhealthzone.com . This site has organic products. Look for Tri-guard echinacea. This should be taken just as soon as you feel something coming on. It is proven to be THE strongest and most potent blend of echinasea. Then look for Nutrilite Clearguard. These tablets are specified for nasal problems, runny nose, and allergy prone stuffiness. This product in perticular is not very expensive. It sure is worth the money though when something actually DOES work! If you need my help, let me know!

I love that people are chiming in w/ the less invasive more natural approach. Steam, humidifiers, neti pot, etc. – IMO these are definitely the things to try first before swallowing a bunch of pills.
Also be aware that there have been advances in the treatment of CHRONIC sinusitis. It used to be that surgery was the only answer but balloon sinuplasty and others have added to the list of viable options.
    Take care.
