Had sinus infection since coming back from Spain on a plane – symptoms include dry eyes/mucus leaking, dry throat, one or other nostril stuffed etc. Using Beconase to open sinuses up works temporarily, what could I use to beat this completely?

This problem can be caused by a virus or bacteria, by polyps or swelling in the nasal conchae, by overuse of nasal sprays (which destroy the nasal lining, ultimately). Irritants from tobacco smoking are a common cause also. An antibiotic may be necessary – Amocycillin is the AB of choice. Truly chronic rhinitis /sinusitis requires physical examination (to exclude polyps etc) – and may be cured by a simple op to help the cavities to drain. (Nurse ‘Creamcheese’).

Load up on vitamin C, availiable in many forms (vitamins, airborne, emergen-C)

  4. laundry? says:

Irrigate sinuses several times a day with saline wash or Neti Pot. If these are not helping you probably need an antibiotic course of treatment.

  5. ShortcutHerbal Goody says:

Steer clear of alcohol, take Skullcap tea, Clover tea, Dandelion tea, or Pau’ Darco tea if the tea form doesn’t work fast enough use tablets of Pau Darco. Also raw onion and raw garlic will help. If use tablets then be sure to drink plenty of fruit juice natural. For stuffed nostril Breathe Easy Tea or just sniff some hot spices like Habenaro! Note: If you can’t get Breathe Easy Tea, use Echinechea (this is one of the items in Breath Easy Tea)! Be sure
to Check your Local Healthfood stores! Remember also an ounze of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

My doctor gave me a saline nasal spray and some Clarinase tablets.
But that did not really help. Had it for about 6 months.
Then he gave me antibiotics for the chest pain, no fever I had (put up a question about it and it turned out to be pleurodenia with an underlying bacterial infection) and these antibiotics (doxycycline) really seemed to have helped my sinus problem. and I still have not finished the course yet.
