I am completely frustrated with one doctor in my pediatrician’s practice. He ended up giving me a prescription for an infection anyway, but I was just wondering… I brought my baby in because I suspected a sinus infection, shouldn’t he have looked up her nose? Could he really evaluate a sinus infection by only looking in her ears?

  1. Pharmacist (PharmD) says:

Your ears, nose and throat are all connected. An infection that is seen past the drum and past the canal from looking inside the ear is usually deemed to be a sinus infection, and that’s pretty accurate. I myself would have looked up the nose too though. A lot of this is routine for doctors and they see it so often that they know right off the bat what it is.

he can tell by the history and symptoms you describe to him…he rules out ear infections by looking.
