I don’t have insurance right now and I suspect I have a sinus infection. Will it go away on its own or do I need to see the doctor?

For many people, infections of the sinuses come and they go. For a few people though, they seem to stay. Unfortunately when that happens then they need a course of antibiotics.
My first question would be, is it actually a sinus infection or is is sinusitis? How long has it been going on for? If there a discharge from the nose, if so how much and what color.
The sinuses are very hard to drain and some of them seem to have been designed for when we went around on all fours.
My first thought would be to do a few steam inhalations (bowl of hot water, towel over your head and breath deeply.) Then I’d lean forwards to let the frontal sinuses drain clear. If this clears it up then fine, if not, then you may have an infection and would need antibiotics to clear it up.
If you live in Europe (or a few other countries) you can go to the pharmacist and get antibiotics from them without a doctors prescription. If not, then you’ll have to go to a doctor or a nurse with rights to prescribe.
Hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon!

Sometimes. Try taking a good OTC decongestant and blowing your nose a lot.

no, NEVER let a sinus infection go without antibiotics. It can turn into menigitis. No joke.

Your body will always heal infections, of course a Dr. heals them faster.

    almost never.
you can take lots of hot showers and blow your nose a lot, but really, this is an infection that can get unbelievably painful.

you should definitely see a doctor, but depending on whether it is a viral infection or a bacterial one, he may or may not give you antibiotics

The only things that really helped me was when my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
    you need
    distilled water
    sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don’t get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
    best wishes

I definitely suggest going to the doctor. I thought I had a sinus infection… I’d had pain in my sinuses for the past year, and everytime I’d try taking OTC sinus medications, it would never work. I went to the doctor, who prescribed antibiotics, which didn’t help either. Finally I asked for a referral to an ENT, who gave me a CT scan, and turns out I had a deformed septum which required surgery.
So basically I’ve spent the past year trying to find a cure on my own, for something that wasn’t even a sinus infection. So go to the doctor’s, and I wish you luck!

Take vitamin C and drink lots of water. You may be able to get over it on your own. If you get a fever or a lot of pain you will have to go to a doctor.

See your dr. Yeah the infection can get out of control. If you are short on $ try to see a dr. in a dr.’s office. Much less expensive than an ER. Try to get some health insurance. If you are working, asking your supervisor about getting insurance. Even if you have to pay for it, it’s worth it. The worst bills are not the doctor bills; it’s the hospital bills.

    no you should get antibiotics
