My nearly eight year old daughter has been fighting a sinus infection for the last 3 weeks – we’ve done one round of antibiotics and are starting another (Septra) – she eats when given the antibiotic, but still complains of stomach distress and loses her appetite during the course of the antibiotic.

I give her yogurt to help rebuild the good bacteria lost due to treatment – but was wondering is anyone had any other advice that could hopefully make her a little more comfortable in the next few days.

Many thanks!

Ginger is good for nausea. I make a kind of a tea with fresh ginger root and that might help. There are also ginger gravol chews which help. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if they will react to each other.

Yogurt is a good start but doesn’t have enough good bacteria in it. You should buy some acidopholous at the health food store and make sure she gets the full dose.
Ginger ale is helpful, and just a bland diet like noodle soup, toast, cream of rice cereal etc.

Thats a alot of antibiotics. Yogurt does not have enough of the good bacteria. Ask the pharmacist for a probiotic pill.

that is way to long to take an antibiotic. Get another DR. Antibiotics lose their effectiveness and what ever her aliment they anitbiotic will no longer work. Yogurt is the best. Keep giving it to her. Or anything else fermented for that matter.

She simply needs a different form of antibiotic.

Go to the store and get her some Probiotic capsules.
    They should be refrigerated.
Give her a couple a day with food.

Hmm To tell you the truth…I wouldnt mess with too many home remedies for this. there are alternative antibiotics that you take more often, but usually avoid any nausea… I would ask your dr about that.

Im all for home remedies for a lot of things, but anti bios are pretty crazy things as far as medicine goes…I think we’ll find more problems with them as we keep studying them. Not to scare you, im sure its fine…just giving you my opinion on the matter!;)
